Proceeds from the 2024 Big Ball will be used to continue the on-going development of the Kawakami Pre-habilitation Clinic. Funds raised by the WFMH group through the Big Ball are being directed towards a Pre-habilitation Clinic at the Expansion, named for Dr. Jun Kawakami, a urologist and friend of the WFMH group, who died in 2021 of pancreatic cancer, at the age of 48. The goal of the Pre-habilitation program is to optimize healing outcomes for patients diagnosed with significant disease by improving all aspects of their physical, mental, and emotional health, prior to surgical intervention.

This year's Big Ball Ambassador is Mark Tewksbury - an Olympic Champion and incredible Calgarian. In addition to his monumental success as an athlete, Mark is recognized for his humanitarianism. Working with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as an athlete representative, he became a respected trailblazer and prominent advocate for the LGBTQ+ community worldwide after he came out publicly in 1998 as Canada’s first gay Olympian, even addressing the United Nations on the decriminalization of homosexuality.
Mark understands how important sport can be as a vehicle for inclusion. In particular, he has been deeply involved with the Special Olympics movement, transforming the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport. To honor this part of Mark's incredible life - the Big Ball will donate a portion of this year's proceeds to the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games which are being held in Calgary February 27th- March 2nd, 2024.

Calgary’s professional soccer team, Cavalry Football Club, is a cherished ally of the Women for Men’s Health Initiative.
In 2023, Marco Carducci – the Cavalry FC’s Golden Glove keeper – served as the Ambassador for the Big Ball alongside his Cavalry FC teammates. In early 2022, Marco battled testicular cancer. He amazed us by using his influence to raise awareness about the significance of discussing this cancer, early detection, and the mental health challenges it entails.
Cavalry FC turned last year’s Gala at the Hotel Arts into the most talked-about event of the year. We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with this remarkable group of athletes and community leaders as we’re excited to announce that Cavalry FC will be hosting the Big Ball’s inaugural VIP reception!

The Women for Men’s Health Group was established in 2016. Over the past eight years we have raised more than 2.1 million fundraising dollars that have been dedicated to imperative men's health initiatives that span across psychological, social, and medical domains.
Our sixth rendition of The Big Ball could not come at a more important time. The challenges of the global pandemic continue to affect each of us. At WFMH, we recognize our need to ensure that we support all members of our community. We are dedicated to becoming more inclusive to all parts of society.
